Looking at China: Autonomous Inspection of Power Equipment by Drones to Ensure Safety
As winter approaches, in response to the cold wave weather, State Grid Jiangxi Electric Power Company has launched a comprehensive special inspection and protection operation on important transmission and transformation equipment such as ultra-high voltage. Through the application of new technologies such as unmanned aerial vehicle autonomous inspection and video surveillance, it provides technological support for ensuring power supply during the peak winter of 2023, ensuring that the public can use electricity with peace of mind, safety, and warmth during the winter.
"As the peak season of winter approaches, we have deployed over 30 multi rotor unmanned aerial vehicles to conduct autonomous inspections on the 500 kV outgoing line of the ultra-high voltage 1000 kV AC station Ganjiang station. Autonomous inspections do not require professional drone pilots to operate, but only need to prepare inspection plans in advance. The intelligent inspection system can control unmanned aerial vehicles to automatically complete inspection tasks such as trajectory planning, infrared temperature measurement, and defect identification and labeling." Zhang Wuwen, the project manager of Jiangxi Siji Technology Co., Ltd., said.
State Grid Jiangxi Electric Power Company has organized and implemented the unmanned aerial vehicle autonomous fine inspection project for the ultra-high voltage Ganjiang Station, achieving full coverage of 7 dense channels for 500 kV outgoing lines, precise defect identification and detection, and effectively ensuring the safe and stable operation of the ultra-high voltage Ganjiang Station.(Qin Shushuo)
