Looking at China:Modern Electric Power Escorts Traditional Lantern Performance
On February 24, the traditional Chinese Yuanxiao (Filled round balls made of glutinous rice-flour for Lantern Festival) was held in Zhuolong Village, Dayou Township, Shicheng County, Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province. With the sound of huge gongs and drums, a "snake lantern" hundreds of meters long was lit in the night. Amidst the sound of gongs and drums, cheers from thousands of audience, firecrackers, and fireworks, hundreds of lantern dancers work together to dance the "snake lanterns" and wander the streets. Through this activity, they pray for a happy new year for everyone.
Shicheng County is one of the birthplaces of Hakka culture, with a long history of Chinese folk culture and art inheritance, known as the "hometown of Chinese lantern art". Shicheng Lantern is an ancient Chinese traditional folk dance, integrating lamps, music, dance, art and Paper Cuttings, which has a history of more than 1000 years. Lantern craftsmen will make various types of lamps and hold lantern festivals during the traditional Chinese New Year to celebrate festivals.
The "snake lantern" is a special lantern in Dayou Township of Shicheng County, which is favored by local people and lantern lovers. It can only be seen on the Yuanxiao (Filled round balls made of glutinous rice-flour for Lantern Festival) every year. On the day of the event, although the temperature dropped to 1 degree, it still attracted thousands of local residents and tourists from other areas to come and watch.
In order to ensure the safety and stability of power supply during the event, State Grid of Shicheng County Power Supply Company organized staff to conduct a special inspection of power line equipment in Zhuolong Village, helping local homestays and hotels inspect power equipment. If problems occured, they should be dealt with in a timely manner, and modern electricity should be used to provide support for traditional lantern performances. (Liu Yiqun Chen Xueling Yang Shanhai)
