Looking at China: Energy Security of High Mountain Ski Resort

The Qixingling Ski Resort is located in Paibu Town, Tonggu County, Jiangxi Province. It is named after seven giant rocks on the mountaintop that resemble the Big Dipper. The scenic area has an altitude of 1300 to 1600 meters and an average annual temperature of 7 ℃ -16 ℃. It is the first alpine ski resort in Jiangxi Province. In winter, Qixingling Ski Resort can drive tourism consumption of over 100 million yuan.

The sun is shining brightly at the foot of the mountain, but the ski resort on the mountain is covered in white snow. Due to the high altitude and low temperature, the snow and ice on the route will be more severe in winter. Since December 2023, the skiing passenger flow has reached more than 30000 people, and the maximum daily tourist reception can reach 6000 people. As of the end of January, the electricity consumption has reached more than 300000 kilowatt hours.

The arrival of the peak season also means a sharp increase in electricity consumption. During the winter skiing tourism peak season, State Grid Tonggu County Power Supply Company will conduct comprehensive inspections of the customer's main control room, nighttime lighting equipment, snow making water pumps, and other electricity consumption based on the actual electricity consumption of the ski resort. They will also carry out full time maintenance on the transformer, grounding box, and other equipment. At the same time, drones are used to inspect the mountain crossing routes, fully ensuring zero fault operation during the skiing season, and allowing tourists to maintain a good skiing experience continuously.
